If you think you know a cool way to make money, think again. Now you can get a decent salary package by becoming a mermaid in real life …
A medical student from the University of Sheffield has found an amazing and wonderful way to pay for his way through the university – working part-time as a child mermaid entertainer!
Jasmine Avan gets the money £ 100 per hour wear a mermaid tail and swim underwater (without any diving equipment) to entertain the kids.
She calls herself the mermaid Athena Bura and works at children’s parties, usually around Virral and Merseyside. They often go to children’s pools, but she also performs at parties on land.
Participants participate in donning a mermaid costume, playing games with children and even teaching them to marine. According to Yasmin, her adventures began when she saw an advertisement for a mermaid camp:
It really intrigued me and I thought it could be a lot of fun.
We were taught free diving – this is scuba diving, which relies on the diver’s ability to hold his breath, rather than using equipment such as scuba diving.
For me, it’s much more than work. I love working with children, and seeing me dressed like a mermaid from real life make them so happy.
Is it safe to be a mermaid in real life?
At the end of the mermaid course, Yasmin and other mermaids asked the Mermaid leader to join her party cause.
All you had to do was buy tails, which can vary in price depending on how much you are willing to make yourself and pay for the material. Jasmine said:
It all started as fun, but blossomed into business opportunities!!
Hire a mermaid in real life for a party in between £ 100 and £ 200 for the first hourand then up to about £ 40 for any extra services.
However, the work has its drawbacks. Jasmine says the company works to be careful about who they hold parties for.
The work attracts some weird types known as “merverts” who view mermaids as a sexual fantasy.
We also have some backlash that we buy into fantasy, but really we all just love having fun at children’s parties.
More unusual ways to make money at university
If mermaids consume your business, worry – the university has many other ways to be creative with your money.
You may like the idea get a part-time job at a pub or store, but if that happens with your schedule, why not try something else?
There are, like Jasmine, and her mermaid, and more obscure options. For example, Beau Jessup earns £ 48,000 a year from her website, which helps Chinese parents choose English names for their children.
If you’re not too fussy about where you live and how much space you have, you could choose what to do this is what the student did and live on a £ 800 yacht to save on rent.
Indeed, the message of taking home: there is a huge potential for making a reasonable amount of money if you are studying for a degree, even if you initially feel that you have enough time for a normal part-time job!
