Because Shopify is the preferred e-commerce software for many businesses, in fact more than 600,000 businesses in 175 countries, this should seriously consider your own business. Shopify is a great cloud-based choice with a low launch cost and an easy-to-use interface from which you can promote, sell and ship your products.

I mean, with Shopify, it is possible to run a complete online store quickly and for only $ 9 per month! That’s pretty awful!

However, when a Shopify store actually launches, it can feel a bit overwhelming. Shopify does its best to make the setup process easy, but setting up and running an ecommerce store requires a lot of thought and work.

So, if you feel like a “doll” because of ignorance about Shopify, this article will change that! Let’s find out everything you need to know about the online service in this Shopify guide!

What is Shopify?

Shopify is a complete online e-commerce service that allows you to set up an online store to sell your goods. Shopify manages everything from marketing and payments to secure sales and shipping, so you can focus on the things you love! Shopify is truly an amazing one-stop shop for ecommerce owners, because who doesn’t want a unique interface for organizing all the moving parts of their business?

But because of all these services, the platform can feel a little complicated, right?

If you are new to online ecommerce and don’t know much about web development or coding, don’t worry. Shopify offers a comprehensive web-based ecommerce program that has customizable templates that you can easily set up to represent and promote your ecommerce business.

Because every ecommerce platform is an investment and you want to make sure it’s something you want, Shopify makes it easy to test their product with a 14-day free trial. On top of that, Shopify is also pretty much set up. They offer numerous helpful articles and employee interview rooms to help with any problem that arises.

No need to fear, you and your e-commerce company are in Shopify’s good hands.

How much is a purchase?

So the next question is how much does it cost that big?

I think many of us always assume that we will pay hand and foot for services like this, but surprisingly, Shopify is quite affordable compared to many other ecommerce platforms!

Shopify’s flexible pricing plans allow businesses of all sizes to take advantage of the incredible interface, features and applications it offers. There are 4 main pricing layers based on increased functionality and additional ecommerce features and tools that you can use to grow your store. These plans are:

  • Lite – $ 9 per month
  • Basic Shopify – $ 29 a month
  • Shop for – $ 79 per month
  • Advanced Shopify – $ 299 per month

In addition to these basic pricing options, Shopify offers an enterprise (Shopify Plus) solution for bulk dealers and large businesses.

All Shopify plans do not include setup fees, unlimited product downloads and file storage, internet and telephone support 24/7, no bandwidth fees or transaction fees when using Shopify payments. With each plan, you can add website templates and apps from Shopify, with a large selection of options, both free and paid.

What’s nice too? All Shopify plans are month by month, so you can upgrade, upgrade or cancel Shopify at any time! The only problem is that Shopify does not include domain names or hosting hosting for free, so you will need to look at a third party or shop directly from Shopify.

What can you sell on Shopify?

Honestly, at Shopify you can sell anything and everything under the sun.

Well, basically everything is socially acceptable, so don’t be shady. If it gives you a “black market” bulb, then you probably can’t sell it on Shopify …

Overall, if it is a physical product, sales product, digital product or service that is not an illegal sale online, you can sell it on Shopify.

Shopify does not allow you to sell drugs, supplements, gambling products, marijuana, alcohol, or adult content – although these are common exemptions for many e-commerce platforms. Shopify Tutorial: Getting Started with Shopify

Ok, now we know what Shopify is, how much it costs and that we can sell our products on the platform, so how do we set up shop? There are several steps to this process, so I have put together a short Shopify guide for you!

1. Sign up through Shopify

Visit Use the sign-in form to create an account. Enter the required details and click the “Create Your Store Now” button. From there, you will enter your business email and create a password. This is also the step to create your store name.

After this initial screen, you will be asked to fill in a few more details, including your name, address, country and contact number. They will also ask you if you have any products and, if so, which store will be sold. If you just try Shopify to see if it works for you, you can select “I’m just playing around” from the “Do you have products?” And “I’m not sure” in the “What are you going to sell” section.

When done, click “I’m done.”

2. Set up an online store

Once logged in, you will be directed straight to the store admin screen. This is your ecommerce command center! Once you are in this step, you are ready to begin customizing your store, transferring your product, and setting up payment and shipping.

This is the fun part, and Shopify makes it easy to set up, get creative and be efficient!

3. Select the Shopify Storefront theme

No business is ready if they don’t have their department stores working! Shopify makes it easy for you to design your brand and store ecommerce website with your custom templates.

Shopify has its official theme store. All themes come with a complete list of customizations you can make without having to touch a line of code. WHIZ! The nice thing about Shopify theme templates is that they have a full design support team, self help articles and Shopify chats to make sure you are in good hands!

Top-notch themes (the ones you pay for) come with more modifications, but you can easily achieve a great site too. These changes are outlined in the next section. If you want to make wholesale changes to the theme, there are very few limitations to what can be achieved by accessing HTML and CSS.

If you don’t have the coding knowledge or don’t want to bother with code customization, Shopify also has “Shopify Experts” that you can hire to take away your headache! Customization has never been so easy!

So, to find a theme that fits your brand, you need to do the following:

  1. Visit Shopify’s theme store at You will find over 180 topics to choose from, including a good selection of free themes! Yay for free! You can also filter by price, industry, popularity and features. Alternatively, you can find various Shopify themes for sale on sites like Themeforest, but you’ll need to upload them through a special (but easy) process.
  2. Once you’ve found the theme you want, click the sample theme image to get more information about it. Be sure to check customer reviews, it’s nice to know what people think!
  3. Click “Show Demo” to test the topic. This will be useful to really see how the theme works, how it moves, etc.
  4. Once you find the theme you like, click the green button. Shopify will ask you to confirm that you want to install the theme. Click “Post as my store theme.” Once the theme is installed, Shopify will notify you and it will appear in your posted topics.
  5. Now you just need to enter your company custom logos, fonts, product photos, videos and other personalized content! Common features include:
    • Logos
    • High quality image sliders
    • Product pictures and collections
    • Color schemes
    • fonts

5. Add your products

Once you’ve set up your site exactly the way you want it, it’s time to add your products!

Navigate to the left bar by clicking on “products”. At the top right of the page, you’ll see a “Add Product” button. On the next screen, add as much detail as possible about your products.

Make sure you write down detailed, descriptive and useful information about each product. This is the place that will really sell your products! (note how you can include keywords, descriptions, and URLs to help with your SEO).

This is the screen where you upload product images. Once you’ve uploaded the pictures, you can rearrange them so you don’t worry about them in a specific order.

Make sure your product photo is clear, professional and of good quality. It’s also important to be in tune with the styling and sizing of photos on your product, unless you want it to look like a dysfunctional Pinterest board of alternating sizes and random photos. Simple is always best with a few lifestyle or pictures.

When it’s full, always remember to click the “Save Product” button in the upper and lower right corner.

6. Setting up payments

Okay, so all your e-commerce website products and design are set! Now let’s set up your payments!

“Gateway access” allows customers to shop on your Shopify sales page. Price and commission are important, but it’s also important to see what features they offer. Take a look at the following payment methods as each has its own set of rules, regulations and costs.

Here are some things to consider and understand when trying to figure out which one is best for your Shopify store:

  • Transaction fees: When you make a payment, Shopify retain a small percentage or a fixed fee (or sometimes both) to allow you to use their services.
  • Card Types: You need to know what types of cards accept the selected Gateway payment. Everyone accepts VISA and Mastercard, while most accept American Express. Paypal is also increasingly popular for online payments.
  • Check-out: I wouldn’t suggest that, but some Shopify themes allow you to pay from other servers. This means that the customer is being deducted from your account, which can seem a little tricky. I think it’s always good to shop in one place.

Use Shopify Payments and pay no transaction fees. If you choose an external payment gateway, there will be additional fees of 2%, 1% or 0.5% for our Basic Shopify, Shopify and Advanced Shopify plans.

To finish setting up your payment, click the “Finish setting up a payment account on account” button located in Settings> Payments.

6. Go “LIVE”

Hang on! Before you open the Shopify showcase LIVE and ready for customers, you need to remember to complete the last important things!


  1. Go to the Products page in Control Panel.
  2. Click the name of a specific product.
  3. Scroll down to the section called “List and Variants.” Click the edit link next to “Product variant” to open the dialog.
  4. Make sure to check the boxes next to “Billing taxes” and “Requires delivery” to include them in your products.
  5. If you plan to ship your product to customers, be sure to enter the product weight in the appropriate field.


Make sure the delivery options are useful and vary depending on the customer’s needs. At this time of instant gratification, you are competing with services like Amazon Prime, so be sensible and practical in your shipping methods. Failure to do so may result in a loss in sales!

Shopify will only calculate the shipping cost for your customers based on the policy you define on the Admin Delivery page. To set it up correctly, check your delivery plan by going to the Settings> Shipping page.

Consider buying a domain name

As noted above, Shopify does not provide a domain name service automatically.

To get a custom domain name, you’ll need to look at a hosting site or buy a domain name directly from Shopify. Buying from Shopify usually costs you anywhere from $ 9-14 USD per year, while buying a domain from a third party website can be from $ 2-5 USD per year. The only difference is that a third-party domain name will require you to redirect your DNS records yourself, which can be a small headache.

What programs should I add?

Shopify has hundreds of free and premium apps that you can use to enhance the functionality of your online store. Apps really help with the functionality and customization of your ecommerce store. To help you sort through all your capabilities, Shopify categorizes applications in the following ways:

  • Accounting – Link Shopify to popular accounting solutions like Quickbooks.
  • Customer Service – Add contact forms, live chat, feedback and other customer support features to your store.
  • Inventory – Install inventory management systems in your online store.
  • Marketing – everything you need to include when it comes to your marketing needs.
  • Reporting – Get additional analytics for your online business.
  • Sales – Help increase sales with these applications for customer loyalty programs and social proof reviews.
  • Delivery – Simplify product delivery with applications to help you manage your order execution and connect you to the desired shipping service.
  • Tools – You’ll find tools here, including setting up batch redirects, language translators, fighting fraud, and syncing your blog’s RSS feed.

Email marketing

On top of the apps, make sure you set a great strategy for your SEO settings and add email marketing support so customers can join your email list. If you already have an email marketing service like Mailchimp, you can easily connect them to your Shopify store!

Social marketing

Shopify also has apps and integrations for blogs and social media accounts.

Shopify offers widgets / plugins for users of WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. By adding blogging apps to your store in Shopify, you are creating content that can drive traffic to your website by directing readers to your products.
