I decided to see if the platform would respond to all the noise. I have analyzed over 100 websites that appear on Squarespace. Of course, no platform is ever completely perfect. They all have a set of great features and a number of limitations. It is important to ensure that the platform you choose contains the necessary features. Make sure restrictions will not cause problems for your business, now or in the next two years. I hope my Squarespace review will help you decide if it fits your ecommerce business model.

How square space compares to other SaaS platforms

In our comparison, in which I ranked Squarespace in addition to other popular e-commerce solutions, you will see that I gave it the lowest rating.

Although it has fairly decent prices and does not charge transaction fees, it is limited to two payment gateways. These payment gateways charge a fee for each payment processed.

It also lacks features and loads a bit slower than most other platforms – and loads slowest in terms of mobile.

Accordingly, it is one of the easiest to use if you plan to keep your product catalog fairly small.

Square ecommerce overview

Squarespace offers a fully integrated ecommerce solution, along with their robust website builder, with no shortage of topics and templates to choose from. You will not have to pay transaction fees. You will need to merge Stripe or PayPal to process the payment, but if you want both.

This is a platform for people with little technical skill or limited budget who still want it to look like they have spent a lot of money making their website. This is for people who do not want to worry about the restrictions of their online store and want to keep their blog and other site content on the same platform.

Many brands you know and love use Squarespace to power their websites, including:

  • Pixar
  • Lyft
  • Halo Top ice cream
  • Tony Hawk

Square plans and prices

Squarespace offers two plans for online stores, with discounts on annual payments. The basic plan, which is billed at $ 26 per month on a yearly plan or $ 30 per month on a monthly plan, includes unlimited pages, products, galleries, blogs, bandwidth, storage and contributions.

You will get a mobile optimized and billing website, free domain name (with annual purchase), SSL security, $ 100 Google Adwords credit, accounts, supplies, orders, taxes, discounts, no transaction fees, shipping labels via ShipStation and integrated accounting through Xero.

The advanced plan, which is billed at $ 40 a month or $ 46 a month on a monthly plan, includes everything in the basic plan, plus: abandoned auto-cart recovery, real-time shipping with shipping, automatic discounts, and gift cards. These are important features in many ecommerce stores, and there seems to be no way to move them to lower levels of plans.

For sale online with square footage

Square space allows unlimited products and makes it easy to include variants of each product. You can import your product catalog from other platforms like Shopify or BigCartel. Marketing features allow you to integrate MailChimp for your email lists, Google AdWords and share buttons. Amazon is limited to affiliate tracking only.

It’s easy to create a product catalog with as many physical and / or digital products as your heart desires. Accepting payments and keeping in touch with your customers is also pretty easy. Marketing and business management, however, are seriously lacking.

No multi-channel sales

It does not integrate with Facebook, Amazon or Google Shopping for easy cross-selling. It integrates with Facebook and other social media channels to advertise its products. It only integrates with Google Analytics, so you can get more traffic data in your store.

Limited integration library

Trade integrations are limited to payment processors, shipping services, and financial information, such as PayPal, FedEx, and UPS, Stripe, Apple Pay, and USPS. Order fulfillment and inventory integration are only available through the beta version of order orders, which means most people should hire a developer to build a solution.

Heavy cross-sells and upgrades

You can do this inside Squarespace, but additional steps are required. You will need to edit your products and add more information to the product descriptions for which you want to display related products.

Add a “Summary Block” with a carousel layout to this additional information box and select the products you want to include. Select three items per row layout and make other adjustments to the block summary editor tab of the screen as needed. Repeat for each product in your catalog.

Marketing tools can use incentive

There are numerous SEO options available, but you need a little extra work to get it right. You need to go through the advanced settings to find out where to integrate Google Analytics and Google Search Console, or how to manage image options or 301 redirects. The lack of apps and extensions make it a bit more difficult to market your business compared to other platforms.

Oysters Themes in the Square, Applications no

Squarespace offers hundreds of highly customizable templates so your site can still look unique even if used by other Squarespace members. Certain templates are more suitable for ecommerce sites than others. You can preview any demo template before selecting it for your site, and you can change the template instantly with just a few clicks. Templates are free. The templates are very high quality, so your customers would never know that you just clicked on the button to select most of your website designs.

If you have trouble finding one you like, you can always buy the Squarespace template from a third-party manufacturer / developer. Squarespace has a list of developers they support to help you point in the right direction. Expect to spend about $ 300 on one of these templates.

Squarespace has a wide selection of integrations, including Acuity for booking reservations, Bandsintown for tour dates, and OpenTable for booking restaurants. There are also applications for social media integration, blogging and commentary, images and videos. E-commerce and marketing integrations are very limited – they only cover MailChimp, ShipStation, PayPal, Stripe, Apple Pay, FedEx, UPS, USPS and Xero.

The square is very easy to use

Squarespace can produce a stunningly beautiful website with little technical knowledge. You can do anything with the drag and drop image editor, and what you see is what you got (WYSIWYG) the layout editor. There are several “blocks” that make it easy to insert everything from audio and video to image galleries, Amazon affiliate products, maps, and more.

Platform Ease of use Telephone support 24/7 support Chat support Community rating Number of apps / plugins
Shopify 4.8 That That That 5 2000+

While it is easy for beginner designers, they really lack the integration and support of third-party applications that could add more features and functionality. Adding more support here can make it easier to use without sacrificing the features of many other e-commerce platforms.

Alternatives to squares

When it comes to other hosted solutions, BigCommerce and Shopify are great alternatives. They have similar pricing structures for smaller stores but can be quite expensive for larger stores. However, more extensive application features and integrations often make up for this price difference. They work with many more payment gateways, and both offer unlimited products.

BigCommerce focuses on simplifying multi-channel sales. It makes it easy for you to manage your store on Amazon, Facebook, eBay and Pinterest, all within the BigCommerce platform, synchronizing your inventory as it goes so you don’t over-sell. It also has powerful SEO tools and a number of nice topics like Squarespace.

Shopify offers a platform similar to Squarespace, but it greatly expands third-party applications and integrations, allowing you to do more with your website and store. You can still keep a blog and pages on the site because it’s also a content management system, but you can do more marketing and promotion directly with the Shopify platform.

Square space conclusion

If you want a simple website and have several products, Squarespace is great. You will quickly come across restrictions that try to sell on other platforms like Amazon. Clearly, the Squarespace platform tends to refine design rather than marketing and functionality, which can be a double-edged sword for those just starting out with e-commerce. If you want tools to not only make your store great, but to promote it, you’ll find other ecommerce solutions that are better suited to your needs.
