There are many reasons why people find themselves without a financial margin and need more money. You want to pay off your student loan debt, but you still have extra money for it. You want to save for the future, but there is very little left at the end of the month. Or maybe you’re just struggling to pay your monthly rent.

Sometimes the answer to our financial distress lies in the cost side of the monetary equation – reducing debt and eliminating unnecessary spending to increase our financial margin. But there are also cases where there is less equation left for consumption. You already live a bare bones budget and cutting your budget does not reduce it anymore. You need to focus on the income side of the money equation. You need to find more money.

Fortunately, there has never been a better time to make extra income outside of your regular, full-time job. About 57 million Americans are part of the gig economy. So if you need to make more money, there is a good chance that you can increase your income by getting a side gig. Here are some top gigs that many use to make more money.

1. Driving a car

Do you own a car and enjoy meeting different people? Rideshare rides can be great fun for you. Ridesharing offers an alternative to the traditionally provided taxi service. You are probably familiar with Uber and Lyft. These are the most popular ride-sharing companies. To get started, simply go to the website of one or both companies and fill out an application. Many drivers have increased their chances of finding a driver for both Uber and Lyft. You can do this side gig whenever the schedule allows. Once you become an approved driver, just get in your car, turn on the app and go make money.

2. Food and grocery delivery

Do you know how to get around the shop or do you know where to get lunch? You can make money by delivering food and groceries. Shipt and Instacart are two major players in grocery delivery. On either side, you pick things up at the store and then deliver the groceries to the customer. You can also apply for food delivery for a company like Grubhub, Seamless or UberEats. With that, customers order food, you pick it up at a restaurant and then deliver it to them. People who like to drive people might prefer to transport food.

3. House repairs

Do people constantly ask you for help with things around their homes? It may be time to start making money from that coveted skill set by using one of several companies that connects craftsmen with prospective buyers. TaskRabbit, Takl and Thumbtack are some examples of companies like this. You can set your price and take as many or as few projects as you want. Buyers rate and review the people they hire, the more and better reviews you get, the more opportunities you will have to generate revenue.

4. Online lectures

Do you enjoy teaching a particular subject? Online tutoring is a growing way for those who like to learn to make money outside of their full-time work. VIPKid, Tutor.com and Wyzant connect teachers to teaching opportunities. Many companies offer English classes to students in China and other countries, so you can work early in the morning, late at night, or whenever you like.

Understandably, not all are qualified to teach students. To ensure quality teaching, many companies require potential teachers to take a series of tests. But those who pass the exams get a chance to make money while helping students do well in school.

5. Buy low, sell high

Are you really skilled in finding great deals? If so, you might want to consider turning it around. Flipping is when you buy an item at a lower price and sell it at a higher price. You have probably heard about home-busting, but you have not said the only thing related to this. Craigslist, eBay and Facebook Marketplace are great places to find various items to turn around. You can even come across some free items that only need a little TLC. Clean and market them. But remember: flipping does not guarantee revenue. In fact, if you do it wrong, you could lose money. Be smart about that.

Financial stress can hit anyone. If you need to find more money to pay bills, reduce debt, or save for future expenses, there is good news for you. There have never been more opportunities for side gigs before. Start looking for your gig today.
