If you have a computer, an Internet connection, and a high tolerance for strenuous tasks, then you may be able to make money online quickly.

To do this, you usually have to complete small one-off tasks anywhere from pennies to double-digit dollars apiece (though the latter is the last one).

Only you can decide if you make a small profit. There are other things to keep an eye on, such as not paying. About that later.

Here are some of the pain points of some popular sites that will pay for your work:

Complete quests with Amazon’s Mechanical Turk

What: Amazon’s popular Mechanical Turk represents an online marketplace based on the concept that people do more business better than computers. Temporary Employees or “Seekers,” a list of human intelligence jobs known as HITs that employees can fill out for pay. These include tagging pictures, describing content that appears in videos, and participating in studies. The amount you get depends in part on the effort and time it takes to complete the task. For example, you could earn $ 12 to transcribe one hour of video recording and 80 cents for three-minute recording.

Watch for: Those who have tried Mechanical Turk give mixed ratings. Some have filed complaints against Mechanical Turk and left negative reviews with the Better Business Bureau. Kristy Milland, founder of the TurkerNation.com online community, says inexperienced Turkers are threatening to cheat because it’s hard to know who to work for. In the worst case, the applicant can take your job and refuse to pay you.

Mechanically, Turkey’s participation agreement says Amazon has no control over their searchers and actions. If you are paid for your work, follow the instructions on the Mechanical Turk website to contact the finder. If that works, you can contact Amazon customer service.

The good news, Milland says, is that “people will voluntarily help you find a decent job and avoid these pitfalls.” She urges new workers to check out the numerous Turks’ online communities that share resources and insights. In addition to TurkerNation, you can join other forums like MTurk Crowd, Facebook groups and Mechanical Turk Reddit with over 20,000 people. Milland also suggests checking out the Turkopticon, which reviews HITs and seekers.

These robust communities show that while Mechanical Turk is far from perfect, many have realized that it is worth their time. Some say they make hundreds of dollars a week.

Check the site at UserTesting.com

What: Businesses want their websites to be functional and intuitive. But anyone who has encountered the “Page 404 Not Found” error message knows that these companies always think they should. Bad where Usertesting.com is reported. You get tests that involve navigating websites and recording yourself as you narrate the experience. (For example: “I clicked ‘add to cart’ but still see the item there.”)

Thanks to your insights, companies working with UserTesting, such as Intuit TurboTax and CarMax, learn how to improve their websites.

Watch for: Each test requires a 20 minute recording and answers to four written questions. Earn $ 10 for each test, via PayPal. You will receive a payment if the company whose website you are testing is dissatisfied with your understanding. But according to UserTesting.com, this happens less than 1% of the time.

Take surveys, watch videos for sites like Swagbucks

What: Dozens of websites including Swagbucks, InboxDollars, Toluna and CashCrate want your opinion and will give you a few bucks. The workflow is pretty consistent across all types of websites. You usually take surveys, watch videos, or shop online in exchange for cash or points, which you can redeem with PayPal or gift cards. Although salaries vary from website to task, they are usually low, but these tasks take some time and effort.

Never pay for opportunities and give your bank account information in advance.

Watch for: Before working on these sites or any other site, search for online reviews of other employees who have tried them. Learn what you can about their experience, earnings and success in customer service. SurveySay.com, for example, cites reviews of Swagbucks and similar sites. Search the Better Business Bureau website to find out how long an online employer has been in business and what consumers have said about it.
