Music can really make the world go round. But music used to be limited and underrated. Not because the music was of poor quality back then, but because it wasn’t as accessible as it is today. Today, we have the freedom to access all types of music through technology, and in such a short time awareness and appreciation of the music industry have grown significantly.

Long before the internet gained its fame, music was limited to a small audience. Some of the most powerful songs written were sung and released underground, in fear of other major themes such as communism, capitalism and war. With the advent of e-commerce, the world has become a wonderful playground for music of different ages, stages and styles. Ecommerce has opened up a new way for music to be heard in other places that can be fully appreciated. Buying music online has become so simple and fast that it has broken down the barriers not only of geography but perhaps of culture. When music went online, it became a new profit-making industry.

Little did we know then that the music industry would be as big as it is now? Today, song sales on iTunes, eBay and Amazon total billions of dollars a day, and only the United States counts on this. These artists could only be known in their own countries, but the Internet turned them into international superstars because e-commerce made it possible for their songs to be purchased by anyone around the world. Even smaller indie performers and underground bands can now show off their talent online through e-commerce, giving each performer the opportunity to grow big where the music field is slightly leveled.

Buying songs online has also given the consumer more freedom to choose the songs they want to consume. During the older days songs were supposed to be bought with the whole album, but today you can buy them as an individual. This has increased sales more than ever before. Not only are songs available, they are also available as soon as the album hits the market. This makes them available online to anyone in the world as soon as the song comes out. This ecommerce feature helps make music more competitive and efficient globally. There is no more discrimination as to who and when these songs can only be heard.

Some negative effects have also hurt the music industry. Because the internet is so accessible and easy to use, the exchange of illegal downloads has also flourished. This development slows down ecommerce profits, because you can now download music for free. Current attempts are being made to control this phenomenon.
