In addition to Shopify, BigCommerce has the features needed for developers, but it’s not quite there for the average non-tech person. BigCommerce Review – Prices
At one point BigCommerce had some competitive pricing that was quite comparable to that of Shopify. However, after many e-mails and comments from our readers, they seem to have dramatically increased prices for their more successful customers (earning over $ 125,000 a year).
It’s a big blow to both BigCommerce’s customers and our view of the company as a whole. Of course, you still have some fixed prices, which we will list below, but once you exceed a certain point of sale, you will face an incredibly high monthly price. It’s almost as if BigCommerce is trying to dampen users who make more money, simply because they can.
In any case, let’s continue with the various plans to choose from. BigCommerce still has a free 15-day trial of BigCommerce before you have to make a decision.
Now all these prices might look pretty cool at first glance – but there is one thing to keep in mind. If your store starts growing at a certain size – you will upgrade (like it or not). We’ll be back to this in a minute.

- Use the currencies that are right for you – including several different ones at different times.
- No transaction fees: Even if you use a payment gateway, BigCommerce does not charge any transaction fees.
- The tool to store abandoned shopping cart details is fantastic for returning customers to your store when you need them most.
- You can get as many staff accounts as you need with any plan.
- Built-in marketing tools are available – including the ability to access an embedded blog without having to integrate something like WordPress.
- The product is available for free trial for 14 days.
- If you want to customize your store, themes can be quite expensive – especially if you want something of a premium choice.
- It’s difficult to customize all aspects of your homepage, including textual content.
- The homepage carousel requires a bit of trial and error before you realize it looks fantastic.
- Design customization features don’t always work out the way you want them to.
- You have to pay quite a bit to access things like abandoned wheelchair functionality.
- There is a limit to the amount of annual internet sales you can make. If you exceed that limit, you will be forced to pay a more expensive plan
- The topics can be very similar to each other in the free section.

As with most ecommerce tools, it seems like BigCommerce will start relatively affordable and become more expensive after that. This may sound okay if you don’t plan on using a lot of additional tools anyway. After all, even standard plans come with things like:
- Unlimited products, bandwidth and file storage: Sell as much as you want without worrying about bandwidth limitations
- Real-time shipping quotes: Be sure to convert customers by offering them the lowest possible delivery rates.
- Responsive websites: Make sure your site looks amazing on both your desktop and mobile device.
- Cash register on one page: Reduce the risk of abandoned carts so that the transaction experience is as smooth as possible.
- 24/7 live customer support: Get all the answers to your questions right away.
💡 In addition, BigCommerce with no transaction fees, There is no cost to pay – no matter what customers spend on your site.
However, there is a downside. BigCommerce uses a slightly different approach to pricing by giving each of its plans a lower bound. This means that if you earn more than $ 50k a year, you will not be able to continue using the Standard Plan – you will be automatically upgraded to the Pro Plan. This is a sudden increase in monthly bills by $ 50.

Plus, there are over 100 paid topics available, with prices ranging from $ 145 to $ 235, depending on what you need. Most themes also come in different variants so you can adapt to your preferences.
Free themes are some of the sweetest shown at a given time, and it’s not all that difficult to customize or make them do what you want. Most paid topics are responsive, elegant and easy to work with. However, it seems that the uniqueness you might find somewhere does not come with BigCommerce. We think this is because most of the topics come from a company called Pixel Union. Not that they are bad designers, but it would be nice to see the unique ideas of other developers.
Still, you can always do your personalization if you want. All you have to do is click on the theme of your web store and play around. You can pretty much use any theme to sell almost any type of product or service with a little tweaking.
Just click on the “Style Editor” feature and play around with things like default colors to reflect your brands or customize fonts. You can also enable mobile themes, modify the main carousel, or add your logo. If you are a bit of a background developer, you can also work with CSS and raw HTML to update your theme.
💡 Overall, you need to spend more than $ 150 or $ 200 for a quality theme. This is on par with competitors.
Starting March 23, 2016, customers will receive access to 67 new, responsive themes designed to extend your store options, promotions and seamless checkout process. Although we have not had the opportunity to test the themes, they range from $ 145 to $ 235, and have modern merchandising capabilities to expand your brand. BigCommerce has announced a new and improved shipping process for those who want more discounts and easier setup. This shipping plan launches in March 2019 and will include the following benefits:
- Send faster from FedEx Express, along with some of the best bargains on the market.
- All shipping rates shown on your site are the same as those displayed on shipping labels.
- BigCommerce has improved the accuracy of its live rates, increasing conversions.
- We will start to see more discount rates than UPS, USPS, DHL and Fedex.
- The BigCommerce dashboard will provide an automated area to configure your shipping. This way, you do not have to go to a third party website.

However, you can integrate with Google Shopping and attract all those shoppers who follow this path. Not to mention, the microdata and reviews on your site have been published on search engines, which are known to make search engines and customers happy.

If BigCommerce does one thing better than enjoyable, consumable online customer service. Feel free to head over to the customer support page and see what it talks about. Building an online store with BigCommerce is easier than you might think.
You will start with the basic application process, which you should probably check with BigCommerce Free Trial to get started. You’ll need to provide some basic details about your store, such as what you’re selling, where you are, and what your business name is.
This is what happens when you actually sign up.
When you click the “Create My Store Now” button, you will be logged in to your personal control panel, where you can follow the on-screen tour and check out some of the available features.
Step 1: Dashboard Research

Dropshipping with BigCommerce
Many of the companies considering using BigCommerce today will be keen to find out how it handles things like Dropshipping.

I’m hesitant to recommend BigCommerce to a larger company, because you can get the tools you need with Shopify or even Magento. As a startup, Volusion is a tough bargain to pass up.
BigCommerce works nicely for small companies, but make your decision based on how much you plan on scaling up in the future. Because you might end up paying lots of fees if you pass up a certain number of sales.
