Here is a short list of some basic features that allow you to guess whether your Pokémon map is important:
• Symbol of rarity – This will be in the lower right corner. Circles and diamonds are common, but a star, H or three stars mean that the map is very rare.
• Holograms – Holographic cards are usually more valuable, or “reverse gala cards” (those that shine around an image but not in the picture itself).
• Errors – Pokemon maps with errors are the rarest and most valuable. Take a look at cards without shadows (those where the shadow near the image window is missing).
• Additional characters or words – Watch for extra words after the name of the card – things like “former”, star or “legend” usually mean that the card is more valuable.
• First Edition Cards – This is good money. Keep track of number one in the circle.
• Collector Number – This is in the lower right corner of the map. The collector’s number, which exceeds the number in the total set, for example, 65/64, suggests that the card is a special edition.
If Pokémon cards do not have any of these features, try selling them online as volume set rather than maximizing your profits.
